The Te Mato Vai Project Management Unit (PMU) and contractor Landholdings Ltd warn the community to take care when using the Nikao back road, as the road surface has deteriorated during the Te Mato Vai Stage 1 resilience upgrade works in the area.
Unfortunately, traffic volumes and recent wet weather have damaged the temporary trench reinstatement Landholdings Ltd are using to complete the pipe upgrade work. The trenches will be permanently sealed as soon as possible.
Road resurfacing work around the island has kept specialist contractors very busy, but we are working with them to ensure this important work is done as a priority.
In the meantime, please take extra caution on the back road in Nikao. We thank everyone for their continued patience and understanding.
